The PARENTING COACH:

Helping Parents create Parenting Plans
for Success!

The Parenting Plan is a  written document  stating exactly how & when the children will be shared by both the parents.

Each Parenting Plan may specify:
  •     Custody arrangements: States who has “full” custody, “legal” custody, and “primary physical” custody.

  •     Visitation schedule: States specific days & times with non-custodial parent on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

  •     Holiday schedules: legal/school, religious, birthdays, school vacations : States specific days & times with each parent.

  •     Transportation arrangements: states how and by whom the child(ren) will be transported between parent visits.

  •     Actions requiring unilateral authorizations or decisions (required with joint legal custody):
  1. enrollment in or termination of attending school
  2. driver’s license
  3. commencement of mental health counseling or therapy
  4. beginning or ending the current religious practice
  5. moving child(ren) from current county/state
  6. passport applications
  7. enrollment in recurring extracurricular activities
  8. all non-emergency medical treatment, other than routine medical/dental/vision check-ups

The Parenting Plan will provide procedures for possible problems in the future, such as resolving additional conflicts, including unilateral decisions or authorizations needing to be addressed, such as:

  • changes to the visitation and/or holiday schedule
  • negotiating an upcoming family move
  • job relocation discussion with children
  • which mediator to use for additional conflict resolution
  • details about how to pay for additional conflict resolution services

One More Thing...
All communication in front of the child(ren) from one parent about the other parent MUST be respectful, including communication by family members & friends.

All communication regarding adult financial arrangements & personal issues will NOT be discussed with the child(ren).

Each parent is required to keep the other parent informed of any situation regarding the child(ren), in a timely manner, such as:
  • School-related information: report cards, teacher conferences, homework, awards, consequences.
  • routine medical/dental/vision check-ups.
  • changes in child(ren)’s activity scheduling, especially when it impacts the other parent’s visitation schedule.
